Electronic Arts Shuts Down Visceral Games – Fate of Star Wars Game in Limbo
It’s a sad day for Star Wars fans, especially those anticipating for Electronic Arts’ other Star Wars game, the one by Visceral Games.
EA has shut down the studio responsible for Dead Space and Battlefield Hardline and reportedly will shift the direction and effort put towards the Star Wars game helmed by legendary game director Amy Hennig for something with much more ‘mainstream appeal’. Famous for her work on the Uncharted series, Hennig left Naughty Dog in 2014 for Visceral Games to work on the aforementioned Star Wars game.

Official release from EA regarding the shut down read “Throughout the development process, we have been testing the game concept with players, listening to the feedback about what and how they want to play, and closely tracking fundamental shifts in the marketplace.”
“It has become clear that to deliver an experience that players will want to come back to and enjoy for a long time to come, we needed to pivot the design. We will maintain the stunning visuals, authenticity in the Star Wars universe, and focus on bringing a Star Wars story to life.” it added.
Elaborating more on the direction of the game, EA intends to take,”we are shifting the game to be a broader experience that allows for more variety and player agency, leaning into the capabilities of our Frostbite engine and reimagining central elements of the game to give players a Star Wars adventure of greater depth and breadth to explore.”
We hope that this game will not suffer similar fate to another cancelled Star Wars game, Star Wars 1313 and that staff of Visceral Games to bounce back soon, doing things they love.
