What We Know About Final Fantasy XIV Online’s Shadowbringers Expansion So Far
During the weekend’s Final Fantasy XIV‘s Fan Festival in Las Vegas, USA, the Square Enix developers of the game announced a bunch of new changes to the ever-growing MMORPG. Here they are:
A New Expansion Called Shadowbringers
This expansion will turn Final Fantasy XIV to version 5.0. Players will get to fight the Garlean Empire and further the plot of the game. Shadowbringers will also feature new jobs, a new level cap (now level 80), new areas to explore, new beast tribes, and new dungeons.
A New Game Plus Option
You can now replay story quests with their current character’s level and strength. So you don’t need to waste a ton of time using a new character to relive the experience.
A New Unique Job
So far, the festival has revealed a new job for the game: the Blue Mage. Just like previous FFs, the Blue Mage uses enemy techniques against them. You have to go out in the field and learn these techniques just like you would in FFV and beyond.
The Viera Will Be The Next Race In FFXIV
…maybe. Producer Naoki Yoshida joked throughout the festival keynote about his shirt which featured Bugs Bunny on a motorcycle. This happened right after announcing an unknown new playable race. And since the Viera are bunny-eared folk in the Final Fantasy Tactics/Final Fantasy XII universe…
In any case, the race will come out in the Shadowbringers expansion, with the developers planning to drop a huge hint in patch 4.5. Or you can wait for more information at the Final Fantasy XIV event in Paris on 2nd February 2019.
The Ability To Move Between Worlds
You and your pals can now travel within different servers within your data center. No, you can’t move between an American and a Japanese data center, but you can move within regions.
As an additional bonus, two new data centers will be opened for North America and Europe. Square Enix will offer free world transfers to help compensate for oncoming congestion issues once Shadowbringers goes live.
The expansion will be out early summer 2019. Stay tuned to Kakuchopurei for more news on that sweet Blue Mage job.
