Here’s How You Can Change Your PlayStation ID

PlayStation owners can rejoice as they can finally change their PSN display names. There will no longer be that angsty teenager display name from 2009.

You’ll be able to change your online IDs on both through the PlayStation 4 and web browser.

There’s one thing worth pointing out, all PS4 games originally published on or after 1 April, 2018 have been developed to support the online ID change feature despite the initial announcement. However, since there’s no time to test out individual games, Sony does not guarantee that it would work with all games.

Just to be sure, here’s the list of tested game you can refer to before making the change. In short, all actively played PS4 games support the feature.

So, here’s how to change you PlayStation online ID;

You can either change your online ID on your PS4 or web browser.

PlayStation 4:

  • Step 1: From your PS4 go to [Settings].
  • Step 2: Select [Account Management] > [Account Information] > [Profile] > [Online ID].
  • Step 3: Enter an Online ID of your choice or choose from one of the suggestions.
  • Step 4: Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the change.

Web browser:

  • Step 1: Sign in to your  and select PSN Profile in the menu.
  • Step 2: Select the Edit button that’s next to your Online ID.
  • Step 3: Enter an Online ID of your choice or choose from one of the suggestions.
  • Step 4: Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the change.

Keep in mind that multiple changes will cost you cash. The first change is free, the second change is RM41 and subsequent changes are RM21.

Sony has also included a helpful FAQ in case anyone has questions regarding the topic.

So, there you have it, ladies and gents. What will you be changing you online ID to, and why? Personally, I’m going for a more updated online ID, and not from my Naruto fanboy days anymore. Mine is also hard to pronounce.

Disclaimer: At the time of writing and publishing, the feature has not gone live yet. We’ll keep an eye out for any updates on the topic.

As of 11 April, the feature is now live! Go change your ID now! I just did.
