Borderlands 3 Will Feature Cross-Platform Multiplayer One Day, But Not Anytime Soon [Update]

A few hours ago, the official Borderlands 3 Twitter feed stated that it will be celebrating “togetherness” later today, 10pm GMT+8. Many fans speculated that it involves cross-platform multiplayer, but alas that is not the case.

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford said in a tweet that the upcoming announcement is not about cross-play. However, the company is committed to supporting cross-play for Borderlands 3 with its respective platform partners as soon as practicable after launch.

Also, the Twitter account announced a VIP Season 2 pass including a new Zane skin and head, the Mural of Mayhem wallpaper, and other sweet loot. Head here if you need a refresher on how the VIP system works.

Personally, a cross-play Borderlands 3 experience would be really, really awesome and will unite players together regardless of consoles and platforms. The game is slated for a 13 September release for PC, PS4, Xbox One.

Update: And if you’re wondering what that “Celebration of Togetherness” is about, it’s a new promo video for the game playing to the tune of The Turtles’ “Happy Together”. It’s cute AND trippy, though I personally wish this was saved for an end-of-August/September pre-launch promo instead.
