Gamescom 2019: Deep Silver Announces Post-WW1 RTS With Mechs

Every RTS fan feels it. The genre is dying and there’s not a lot of hope that the future will be any different. However, it’s not entirely hopeless either. Deep Silver and King Art Games is attempting to breathe some life into the genre with its latest RTS Iron Harvest.

It’s going to be a bit difficult not to draw comparisons to Red Alert idea-wise. Iron Harvest takes place in an alternative timeline where nations have been secretly building mechs and robots during World War 1. Subtitled 1920+, the game takes place right after the Great War.

According to the game’s official website, there will be a “mature story” and it’ll be told from the perspective of the game’s three playable factions. A mature story is definitely what you’d need to differentiate yourself from Red Alert.

To further emphasise that Iron Harvest is a classic RTS game that strategy fans will love, players will experience both single player and co-op campaigns plus competitive multiplayer, skirmishes, and challenges. There will be free DLC too.

Aside from the expected feature of base building, an advanced cover and destruction system will also be implemented where every single form of cover is destructible, as long as you have the firepower needed to bring it down.

Iron Harvest is scheduled to be released on 1 September 2020 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. That’s right, it’s an RTS game for consoles too. If you’re interested, don’t forget to add the game into your Steam wishlist.
