Firewatch Devs Puts In The Valley Of Gods On Hold; Focusing On Valve Projects

In 2016, the Campo Santo game studio released its first game Firewatch. It went on to becoming a very successful title, bagging many awards along the way. The studio announced their next project about two years ago but it looks like it won’t be out anytime soon.

The studio was acquired by Valve last year and have been working on games such as Dota Underlords and the upcoming VR title Half-Life: Alyx.
“So to answer your question as of today, In the Valley of Gods development is on hold—but it certainly feels like a project people can and may return to. And when that happens, we’ll find an exciting way to let fans know.”
– Jake Rodkin, speaking to Polygon.
In The Valley of Gods premiered its first trailer at The Game Awards 2017. At the end of trailer, it was shown that the game would come out sometime in 2019. Rodkin has clarified that the 2019 release window “isn’t going to be accurate” due to the team being split in different projects across Valve.
Seeing as how Rodkin uses the phrase “a project people can and may return to” to describe the current state of In The Valley of Gods, there’s a high chance the game will be abandoned for a very long time.
