The New Xbox Is Called Xbox Series X

The next-gen Xbox console is revealed during the Game Awards 2019. It’s called the Xbox Series X.

As if the name isn’t unique enough, it has a pretty odd vertical rectangle shape, the same exact Xbox One controller, lots of backwards compatibility options, and a 2020 holiday release date to go alongside the new Halo Infinite.

Full debut trailer below:

Here are some extra bits about the new Xbox:

  • The rectangular box can sit both vertically and horizontally.
  • Even if it looks exactly the same, the Xbox Series X controller is technically new. Here’s a quote from Microsoft:

“Its size and shape have been refined to accommodate an even wider range of people, and it also features a new Share button to make capturing screenshots and game clips simple and an advanced d-pad derived from the Xbox Elite Series 2 Wireless Controller.

The new Xbox Wireless Controller will be compatible with Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs, and will be included with every Xbox Series X.”

  • The console will support 60fps at 4K, with a possibility of supporting up to 120 FPS and 8K visuals.
  • The Xbox Series X features a “next-generation SSD that will virtually eliminate load times.”
  • Best of all, it will play ALL previous Xbox titles from your original Xbox games to your Xbox One titles.

“Thanks to backward compatibility, you can expect your gaming legacy, thousands of your favorite games across four generations of gaming, all your Xbox One gaming accessories, and industry-leading services like Xbox Game Pass to be available when you power on your Xbox Series X in Holiday 2020.”

That’s all well and good, and personally, I’m a fan of this PC desktop-esque monolith look. But the big question is: what are we shortening its title as? Xbox SX? XSX? Xbox SeX? Help us out here, fam!
