Stellan Skarsgard Might Be Joining The Rogue One Spinoff Series

Stellan Skarsgard might be joining the cast of the upcoming Disney Plus Rogue One spin-off, Variety reports.

Skarsgard, who you might’ve seen in the first two Thor movies or HBO’s Chernobyl, and actor Kyle Soller are currently “still in final negotiations for their roles”, with little else beyond that. My bet is that Skarsgard is playing some Imperial figure, but who knows?

The still-untitled series focuses on Rogue One‘s Cassian Andor and his droid partner K-2SO in the earlier days of the Rebellion. We’ve no idea what it looks like yet, but it’s described as a “rousing spy thriller“, with Rogue One co-writer Tony Gilroy involved. The show will supposedly premiere in 2021, but as Variety notes, the COVID-19 pandemic could have disrupted those plans.

In the meantime, we can always rewatch Rogue One, which despite its flaws remains the best of the new Star Wars movies to me. Meanwhile, Skarsgard will be appearing in another big sci-fi title, Dune, as Baron Harkonnen when it arrives on 18 December.
