Season 6 Will Be Supergirl’s Final Flight

The CW has announced that Supergirl will end after Season 6. The upcoming sixth and final season will begin production later this month in Vancouver and is set to premiere sometime in 2021, consisting of 20 episodes in total.

According to Deadline, the producers and studio decided to end Supergirl after six seasons due to delays and increasingly low ratings.

Like many shows, Supergirl Season 5 was cut short due to problems arisen from the COVID-19 pandemic. We last saw Lex Luthor defeating Leviathan and the Luthor family set to pose an even greater threat to the world in Season 6.

We’ll potentially see more of Jon Cryer’s incredible portrayal of Lex Luthor in Supergirl Season 6, possibly paving the way for the upcoming Superman & Lois, which will debut its first season in January 2021. The new series will star Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch as the titular couple, both of whom were originally introduced on Supergirl.

The first Arrowverse show to officially end was Arrow, which started in 2012 and ended its run with its final and eighth season earlier in 2020. Other CW DC shows like The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, Black Lightning and Stargirl are still ongoing, with Superman & Lois set to join the roster next year.
