Is Konami Finally Shutting Down Its Gaming & Production Division?

Sometimes it’s always good to mercy kill something if it’s already dying a slow agonizing death. In the games industry case, that ailing patient is Konami’s gaming division.

Following the fact that the company has been silent with upcoming games they own, from Silent Hill to Metal Gear, the company appears to be shutting down its production (and possibly its gaming division) effective 1st February, based on a recent public announcement they made.

We are dissolving the Production Divisions to respond to the rapid market that surrounds us.

Production Division 1 (Dissolve) Production Division 2 (Dissolve) Production Division 3 (Dissolve)

This could be just a typical corporate restructuring, but one that could entail in them stepping away from console and PC video game production altogether. I doubt they’ll be dissolving its pachinko via Konami IPs business; that’s still lucrative on their part. And making collections of their older titles will still be a viable thing to earn them a little cash, so they probably still need an outsourced dev team for that. But by and large, I guess this was inevitable if this dissolving equals zero game production from their end.
