Age Of Empires 4 Reveals Gameplay, New Factions & Campaigns

During a fan event live stream last weekend, Relic Entertainment finally revealed our first look at gameplay from the upcoming Age Of Empires 4, which is slated to launch for PC via Steam sometime in Fall 2021.

At launch, Age Of Empires 4 will feature four campaigns and eight playable factions. Confirmed campaigns include the Norman Campaign, while the factions revealed so far include India’s Delhi Sultanate, the English, the Chinese and the Mongols.

About the Age Of Empires 4 Norman Campaign, narrative lead Philippe Boulle (via PC Gamer) said:

“You get the whole story of the Norman conquest, from the time this ambitious duke made his way across the channel and said ‘this is mine,’ all the way to the point where you’re signing the Magna Carta and laying the foundations of what England is today.

We bridge the gap between missions with these wonderful historical films.

We worked with documentarians to go to all kinds of locations like Hastings and Dover, where these events happened.

And that’s just one of the four campaigns we’re shipping with.”

We also get our first look at the Delhi Sultanate and Chinese civilizations in the videos below. Players can look forward to new and unique features and units for factions, such as the Delhi Sultanate’s intimidating war elephants.

The developer has already confirmed that they will be adding more factions and civilizations after launch. While we still don’t have a definitive release date yet, there will be an Age Of Empires 4 closed beta sometime in the future.

You can check out the rest of the Age Of Empires 4 gameplay footage in another video below:

Is 2021 the year of the RTS’ comeback? Not only are we getting Age Of Empires 4 (the first new entry in the franchise in 15 years), but we’re also getting Total War Rome Remastered on 29 April 2021 and Total War Warhammer 3 sometime later this year as well. It’s a good time to be an RTS fan, indeed.
