Loki Episode 6 Easter Eggs & Breakdown

The sixth and final episode of Marvel’s Loki is available now on Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia. I’ll be discussing heavy spoilers from Loki Episode 6 so if you haven’t seen it or want to avoid spoilers, now’s your chance to stop reading.

For previous breakdowns of Loki episodes, check out Episode 1 here, Episode 2 here, Episode 3 here, Episode 4 here and Episode 5 here.

Also, if you haven’t, you can check out my previous breakdown and easter egg articles for WandaVision Episode 1 and 2, Episode 3, Episode 4, Episode 5, Episode 6, Episode 7, Episode 8 and Episode 9.

For The Falcon And The Winter Soldier, you can check out my previous breakdowns here at Episode 1, Episode 2 and Episode 3, Episode 4, Episode 5 and Episode 6.

If you want a non-spoiler guide to Loki, you can head on over here.

Courtesy of Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia, I was also lucky enough to be the only Malaysian media to participate in a roundtable interview with Loki Costume Designer Christine Wada and Loki Production Designer Kasra Farahani. These interviews have been edited for clarity.

He Who Remains Is Behind The TVA, According To Miss Minutes

At the beginning of Loki Episode 6, Miss Minutes already reveals the identity of who’s behind everything. Disappointingly, it’s an obscure nobody villain named He Who Remains.

In the comics, He Who Remains is the final director of the Time Variance Authority at the Citadel at the End of Time, the last reality of the Multiverse.

He created the Time-Twisters to teach the next universe, who inevitably starred time travelling into the past and destroying the universe they were currently in. Thor stepped in, and with the help of Jane Foster, told Him Who Remains that his Time-Twisters were breaking the past, which caused Him to prevent their existence, interrupting their birth in the past.

At this point, two different realities spawned: in Earth-794282 Him Who Remains created the new Time-Keepers after the death of the Time-Twisters, while in Earth-761243 the Time-Twisters continued to live. It was later revealed that Him Who Remains later banished a fourth Time Keeper back to Ancient Egypt, the Oracle of Siwa.

But wait…

KANG IS HERE

He Who Remains turned out to be none other than Jonathan Majors’ Kang The Conqueror.

I WAS RIGHT! THE COMICSLORD WAS RIGHT!

Since the very first episode of Loki, I’ve been saying that Kang The Conqueror was behind the TVA. Lo and behold, he has arrived.

In the episode, he even says that some call him a “Conqueror”. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1964’s The Avengers #8, the man named Nathaniel Richards is best known as Kang The Conqueror. Hailing from the 30th century, Kang jumped back and forth through time, battling the likes of the Avengers and Fantastic Four.

Several of his most iconic storylines include the Avengers Forever miniseries (by Kurt Busiek and Carlos Pacheco) and Kurt Busiek’s Kang Dynasty crossover, along with his involvement in the Young Avengers and Uncanny Avengers.

He is a complicated character, as different versions of him exist as different characters altogether. His future self is also a supervillain who goes by the name of Immortus, while his younger self is actually a superhero who joins the Young Avengers as Iron Lad.

He Who Remains Is A Kang Variant And He Basically Confirms The Existence Of The Council Of Kangs

He Who Remains reveals that he’s a Kang Variant and that Kang variants have met with each other. While he doesn’t explicitly mention the Council Of Kangs, that’s definitely what he’s referring to in Loki Episode 6.

He also reveals that the Council Of Kangs caused the Multiversal War that supposedly necessitated the creation of the TVA in the first place. Each Kang wanted to ensure that his reality was supreme.

In the comics, the Council of Kangs was a group led by Prime Kang that was tricked by Immortus (a future version of Kang) into eliminating all divergent (read: variant) Kangs in the Multiverse, as that would ensure Prime Kang’s destiny would end with him becoming Immortus.

He Who Remains/Kang Used Alioth To Stop The Multiversal War

Remember the reality-eating Alioth from Loki Episode 5?

It turns out that He Who Remains AKA Kang used the powers of Alioth to stop the Multiversal War.

The Human Identity Of Ravonna Renslayer

Hunter C-20 goes to find the version of Ravonna Renslayer before she was recruited into the TVA. It turns out that she was a human teacher in 2018 before.

The Threshold Is Here, Which Means He Who Remains/Kang No Longer Knows The Future

He Who Remains reveals that the end of time is the Threshold and that he now no longer knows what’s going to happen. Apparently, he also wants Loki and Sylvie to replace him as the head of the TVA.

Yep, both Loki and Sylvie kiss. You are welcome.

The Sacred Timeline Is Now Free To Branch Out, Paving The Way For The Real Kang The Conqueror

After He Who Remains dies, the Sacred Timeline branches out, which means the multiverse is now open again, paving the way for other versions of Kang variants to break into other timelines. This will probably pave the way for the arrival of MCU’s version of Kang The Conqueror in the upcoming Ant-Man 3 Quantumania.

Remember, He Who Remains is just a Kang variant, one of many from the Council Of Kangs.

Loki Season 2 Confirmed

The end of the episode confirms that there will be a Loki Season 2, but no details were provided. There is no post-credits scene.

Kang Is Now In Charge Of The TVA And Mobius Doesn’t Remember Who Loki Is

The episode ends with the shocking revelation that another Kang variant is now in charge of the TVA and Mobius has lost his memories of Loki. The statue of Kang now sits in the middle of the TVA, and this version looks a lot more like the Kang The Conqueror from the comics.

Kang The Conquerer.

Council Of Kangs Will Likely Be The Main Antagonists Of MCU Phase 4 Moving Forward

I’ve already explained above who Kang and the Council Of Kangs are. Moving forward, they will likely be the main antagonists of MCU Phase 4, the same way that Thanos was the main antagonist of the Infinity Saga. He Who Remains seems to be a tired and weary version of Kang, so this isn’t Kang at his prime.

Expect the true Kang The Conqueror from the end of Loki Season 1 or other Kang variants to arrive in Ant-Man 3: Quantumania, which is slated to premiere in February 2023.

Thank you for the breakdown! I had a hunch too that Kang was behind TVA all along. I wracked my brain searching for other possible villains but nope, none would make sense at this point besides Kang. Do you think Kang will make another appearance before Ant-Man 3? In Multiverse of Madness perhaps?
