Activision Blizzard Sued By A US Federal Agency For US$18 Million

The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has successfully sued Activision Blizzard after filing a complaint against the games company yesterday. The lawsuit states that Activision Blizzard is responsible for their employees facing sexual harassment, pregnancy discrimination, and related retaliation.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is a federal agency that was established via the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to administer and enforce civil rights laws against workplace discrimination.

As a result, Activision Blizzard has to cough up a whopping US$!8 million.

The lawsuit statement (via VG247) reads:

“Under the agreement, Activision Blizzard has committed to creating a US$18 million fund to compensate and make amends to eligible claimants.

Any amounts not used for claimants will be divided between charities that advance women in the video game industry or promote awareness around harassment and gender equality issues as well as company diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, as approved by the EEOC. The agreement is subject to court approval.”

According to the court documents, this lawsuit and investigation have been going on since September 2018.

Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said:

“There is no place anywhere at our company for discrimination, harassment, or unequal treatment of any kind, and I am grateful to the employees who bravely shared their experiences.

I am sorry that anyone had to experience inappropriate conduct, and I remain unwavering in my commitment to make Activision Blizzard one of the world’s most inclusive, respected, and respectful workplaces.”

However, Kotick is still getting paid more than US$100 million per year. US$!8 million must be nothing compared to how much the company earns every year. For more details and information on what Activision Blizzard has been accused of, head on over here.
