New Palworld Trailer Shows Off Minigun Toting Totoro

The latest trailer for Pokémon-esque game Palworld showcases various features that make it stand out from its influences, such as guns, base building, and monster fusions.

When Palworld was first announced, it took the internet by storm and for good reason. Its first trailer showed off a simple premise, another run off the mill Pokémon clone, but then the player character pulls out a gun and everyone went mad. The newest trailer shows off more gameplay that lets it stand out from the iconic series it’s trying to emulate.

For starters, the game is not a turn-based RPG but is instead a third-person shooter; there’s an emphasis on the shooter part because guns are a big thing in Palworld. The second trailer starts off with the player character soaring through the skies on a Pal, the titular monster companions in the series.

It then cuts to a squirrel, grass type Pal that climbs on top of the player and pulls out a machine pistol. The trailer then shows how Pals can help you in combat, shooting with you and essentially doubling your firepower.

Aside from being a shooter, what makes Palsworld different is that it’s actually a survival game akin to Rust or Ark Survival. You’ll have to juggle food supplies, which the Steam page ominously implies the ability to eat Pals, and you’ll be able to build bases with the help of your monster friends. What’s more, their version of breeding takes it another step by allowing players to fuse their Pals, to create Pals with different element types as seen in the trailer.

The game aims to be a more mature alternative to the monster training genre as aside from the usage of guns and the implication of eating Pals, the antagonists of the game will be presented in their own version of Team Rocket, in the form of poachers. The trailer also teases the possibility of Pal experimentation or torture, carried out by the poachers.

Wouldn’t want him as my neighbour.

The game also features an electric type Totoro using a minigun which you can hop on its back and shoot alongside with it. Nuff said. The game is slated to release for PC in 2022, with no news for other platforms as of writing.

Palworld is something definitely to keep an eye on for 2022, but in the meantime, you can take a look at our tier list for Pokemon Unite.
