The Batman Brings In Warner Bros.’ Biggest Opening Weekend Since Joker
The Batman launched last week in most of the world and it’s Warner Bros.’ biggest movie since 2019’s Joker, especially when it comes to the opening weekend box office. Directed by Matt Reeves, the movie has managed to garner a whopping US$248.5 million in its first three days (via Deadline), making it the biggest movie for the studio since 2019’s Joker, which garnered US$247 million in its opening weekend.
That includes US$128.5 million from the domestic US market and around US$120 million, from the rest of the world. What’s surprising is this excludes China, as the movie is only set to release there on 18 March 2022. This is great news for fans of the new Batman movie, as it means that it’s highly likely for Warner Bros. to greenlight more sequels and spinoffs.
As of now, the studio has yet to officially announce a sequel, but according to Matt Reeves himself, they’re already working on spinoff TV series from The Batman for HBO Max, including one focusing on Colin Ferrell’s Penguin, and another focusing on either the Gotham City Police Department or Arkham Asylum.
