Pokemon GO Devs Niantic Are Making A Marvel Game

During the Disney & Marvel Games Showcase at D23, Pokemon GO developer Niantic announced Marvel World Of Heroes, which will be their latest AR mobile game that brings the iconic Marvel Universe into the real world.

In Marvel World of Heroes, players can create their own unique superhero identity and origin story. Players will need to patrol their neighbourhoods to foil crimes, complete Super Hero missions, and thwart interdimensional threats. As players level up, they will unlock equipment and abilities, as well as team up with Marvel superheroes such as Spider-Man, Wolverine, Captain America and others to battle iconic supervillains and save the Multiverse from cosmic and earthbound threats.

Unfortunately, this announcement comes only months after we reported that Niantic was forced to lay off its employees and cancel projects back in June 2022. Niantic was founded 2010 and was originally best known for its location-based community game Ingress. However, they went big when Pokemon Go launched in 2016, which has since garnered a whopping US$6 billion in lifetime revenue. Their other games post-Pokémon Go, like Harry Potter Wizards Unite and Pikmin Bloom have pretty much flopped.

Marvel World of Heroes is scheduled to launch globally in 2023. Those interested can pre-register at the official website.
