Twitch CEO Emmett Shear Steps Down
Twitch CEO, Emmett Shear, has announced that he is leaving the company after more than a decade of working with the platform.
Shear revealed in a blog post that his history with Twitch began in 2006 when the site was still called Justin.tv. He cited his desire to focus on his family and tackle new challenges as reasons for his departure.
However, he also mentioned that he plans to continue working with Twitch in an advisory capacity. Dan Clancy, the current Twitch President, will take over as CEO. Shear expressed gratitude towards the streamers who trusted Twitch with their content and communities, as well as towards Amazon for being an excellent acquirer.
In his farewell post, Shear praised Clancy for his dedication to the Twitch community and expressed confidence in his ability to lead the company.
In October 2006 we started working on live video for the internet. That became Twitch. More than 16 years later, I'm now a father and ready to move to my next phase of life. I wrote a blog post, but the short version is: thank you so much to everyone who built this with me.
