New Gran Turismo Trailer Shows Protagonist Fighting Against Video Game Stigma

At San Diego Comic-Con 2023, Sony Pictures Malaysia unveiled a new trailer for the upcoming Gran Turismo movie, which will premiere in Malaysia and Malaysian cinemas on 17 August 2023.

In the trailer, we can see many people, including the protagonist’s own father (played by Djimon Hounsou) and David Harbour’s character, mocking the protagonist for playing video games. Hopefully, the protagonist will prove them all wrong by showing them that even gamers can become real racers. Don’t forget, the Gran Turismo movie is actually inspired by a true story.

Based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, the film is the ultimate wish fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional racecar driver.

Directed by Neill Blomkamp. Screenplay by Jason Hall and Zach Baylin. Based on the PLAYSTATION STUDIOS video game. Produced by Doug Belgrad, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan and Dana Brunetti. Executive Producers are Kazunori Yamauchi, Hermen Hulst, Jason Hall and Matthew Hirsch. The film stars David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Archie Madekwe, Darren Barnet, Geri Halliwell Horner and Djimon Hounsou.

The most recent game in the franchise was Gran Turismo 7, which launched for the PS4 and PS5 in March 2022 earlier this year. Check out my review of the game by heading over here.
