Yukinobu Tatsu’s Dandadan Manga Gets Anime Adaptation For 2024
Yukinobu Tatsu’s popular sci-fi occult manga, Dandadan, is set to make its animated debut in 2024. The announcement includes a teaser visual and trailer, offering a sneak peek into the forthcoming supernatural journey.
The renowned studio Science SARU is taking the reins in bringing Dandadan to the screen, with Fuuga Yamashiro, co-assistant director of Keep Your Hands off Eizouken! and the storyboard artist/episode director for the 10th episode of The Heike Story, leading the project. The production features an impressive team:
- Series Composer: Hiroshi Seko, known for his work on Chainsaw Man.
- Character Designer: Naoyuki Onda, the creative mind behind MF Ghost and Inuyashiki.
- Music Composer: Kensuke Ushio, recognized for his compositions in Tengoku Daimakyou and The Heike Story.
- Alien and Yokai Designer: Yoshimichi Kameda, responsible for character designs in Mob Psycho 100.

The manga, serialized by Shueisha in Shonen Jump+ since 2021, has already accumulated 11 tankoubon volumes by August 2023. The story revolves around two students with conflicting beliefs—one strongly convinced of extraterrestrial existence, while the other embraces the supernatural.
As described by Viz Media:
“Momo Ayase forms an unconventional friendship with her school’s UFO enthusiast, nicknamed Okarun for his unpronounceable name. While Momo believes in spirits, she dismisses aliens as nonsense. Okarun, her new friend, holds the opposite view. To settle their debate, they embark on quests—Momo to a UFO hotspot and Okarun to a haunted tunnel! What unfolds is a captivating tale of young love… and strangely amorous aliens and spirits?”
With an intriguing storyline and a talented production team, Dandadan is set to become a must-watch for anime enthusiasts eagerly awaiting its 2024 premiere. Check out the tease trailer below.
