Crystal Story: Dawn of Dusk Is A Retro Nod To Earthbound & 90s RPGs; Out Next Month

If you’re one of those JRPG players who want a new Mother game from Nintendo, or another one those 90s JRPGs when you’re done with an epic like Sea of Stars, developer Bred Frown has you sorted.

The developers are making a new game called Crystal Story: Dawn of Dusk, and it’s coming out for PC (Steam and itch.io) on 12 January, next year. That’s a month from now.

Crystal Story: Dawn of Dusk is an action RPG that blends retro-style graphics with fast-paced action inspired by 16-bit classic titles. You control a character named Mina who has to save her brother in a fantasy world, kidnapped by the demon Termina. The game is certainly taking presentation cues from classic Nintendo game Earthbound and Mother 3. So if you love those old games, you may want to pay attention to this one in particular.

Features list & trailer are below:

  • Use magic abilities called Arts to traverse a challenging world and defeat enemies and solve puzzles.
  • A hybrid retro-modern-styled adventure will bring you back to the past, but with a modern twist.
  • Fly around the Duskside and take on optional side quests in future updates.
  • Completely playable with an Xbox One controller or keyboard.
  • Includes an optional CRT filter for nostalgic flair.
