Helldivers 2 Was At The Top Of The Steam Charts Earlier Today

Earlier this week, Helldivers 2 surpassed a whopping 400,000 all-time peak of players on Steam (via SteamDB), which has left God Of War’s 73,529 highest peak in the dust. At the time of writing, it already reached 457,649.

However, earlier today, Helldivers 2 achieved another new milestone, reaching the top of the Steam Charts for a while and ever surpassing Counter-Strike 2.

It is now undoubtedly PlayStation’s biggest game ever on PC.

That’s interesting, considering that it’s one of the few, or the only one so far, to come out on both PS5 and PC on the same day. Previous PlayStation PC launches have been staggered, where they launched on PS consoles first and only on PC years later. Perhaps we’ll see more same-day PS5 and PC releases in the future?

Developed by Arrowhead Game Studios and published by PlayStation, Helldivers 2 is a third-person squad-based shooter that sees the elite forces of the Helldivers battling to win an intergalactic struggle to rid the galaxy of the rising alien threats. From a 3rd person perspective, players use a variety of weapons (pistols, machine guns, flamethrowers) and stratagems (turrets, airstrikes, etc.) to shoot and kill the alien threats. Players can also aim down the sights for a more accurate 1st person-camera view.

Combat is accompanied by frequent sprays of blood and dismemberment as players exterminate the alien forces or players and squad mates are hit by environmental explosions or friendly fire. Enemy encampments and battlefield environments depict bloodstains and dismembered corpses.
