This is sad news for anime fans and gamers around the world. The late Akira Toriyama was extremely influential and a legend in various industries, but he will always be remembered for having created the Dragon Ball franchise and giving us iconic characters such as Son Goku.

He was also best known for designing the characters in Square Enix’s Dragon Quest franchise, which featured his trademark and signature art style that distinguishes him from all others. One look at his art and you’d know, this could be none other but the one and only Akira Toriyama himself.
Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii also released a touching tribute to Toriyama (as translated by Gematsu):

Our hearts and condolences go out to his friends, family and legions of fans across the world. He will be severely missed.
