Aang The Last Airbender Movie Delayed All The Way To 2026

Paramount Pictures has delayed the first of the three planned Avatar The Last Airbender animated movies. Aang The Last Airbender will now premiere in January 2026, instead of the previously-planned October 2025 release date.

Lauren Montgomery, storyboard artist for Avatar The Last Airbender Season 3 and The Legend of Korra, is set to direct the film with original series creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko serving as executive producers.

Back in 2022, Nickelodeon and Avatar Studios announced that three animated movies set in the Avatar The Last Airbender universe were in the works. Dave Bautista will voice the antagonist in the movie and Eric Nam will play adult Aang.  Joining them in the voice cast are Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten and Roman Zaragoza. However, story details have yet to be revealed.

Avatar The Last Airbender originally aired for three seasons on Nickelodeon from February 2005 to July 2008. The sequel series Legend Of Korra aired for four seasons from April 2012 to December 2014. The Netflix Avatar The Last Airbender series is separate and completely independent of the new animated movies.

Most canon Avatar The Last Airbender comics have mostly focused on the direct aftermath of the original series, so we’ve never seen adult Aang explored outside from The Legend Of Korra.

In the meantime, we were lucky enough to participate in a virtual press conference with the cast of Netflix’s Avatar The Last Airbender live-action series, where they discussed attending bending boot camp and learning different martial arts for each bending element (head on over here for the full story).
