The Godfather Director Reveals First Look At His Next Grand Sci-Fi Movie, Megalopolis

Francis Ford Coppola is a legendary director best known for the first two The Godfather films and 1979’s war movie Apocalypse Now. His first movie in more than a decade will be Megalopolis, a grand science fiction sci-fi movie with a star-studded cast.

The synopsis reads:

An accident destroys a New York City-like metropolis already in decay. Cesar, an idealist, aims to rebuild the city as a sustainable utopia, while the venal mayor, Frank Cicero, has other plans. Coming between the opposing men and their visions is Frank’s socialite daughter, Julia. Tired of the attention and power she was born with, Julia searches for her life’s meaning.

The first teaser trailer for Megalopolis features Adam Driver’s protagonist character, Cesar, out on the ledge of a skyscraper, walking dangerously close to the edge.

In his Instagram post, Coppola shared a heartwarming and bittersweet message, revealing the movie is dedicated to his late wife Eleanor Coppola, saying:

“Megalopolis has always been a film dedicated to my dear wife Eleanor. I really had hoped to celebrate her birthday together this May 4th. But sadly that was not to be, so let me share with everyone a gift on her behalf.”

The cast of Megalopolis also includes Forest Whitaker, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Aubrey Plaza, Laurence Fishburne, and Shia LaBeouf, as well as Talia Shire and Jason Schwartzman.
