Capcom Wants To Keep The Marvel VS Capcom Crossover Dream Alive

With the announcement of the Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection a month or so ago, it seems that players and fighting game fans are anticipating a comeback of the Marvel VS franchise after the lackluster release of Marvel vs Capcom Infinite. Well, they might, but it will take a while.

Street Fighter 6 producer Shuhei Matsumoto said in a recent Dexerto interview that there is a future for the VS series, one filled with hope. He said that the Capcom dev team has big dreams and an opportunity to not just make a new MvC game, but also a new Capcom-based SNK game. However, it will take development time and the right timing to make a project like this happen, as well as the A-OK from Marvel & Disney (since the latter owns the former). Marvel is aware of the still-vibrant MvC community despite Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 being more than a decade old.

“Maybe there is an opportunity for a new Marvel vs Capcom game. Maybe there is an opportunity for a new Capcom-based SNK game.

I don’t know. But, if that were to happen, that would take some time and effort in order create and release those kinds of games, but the short-term with what we can do now is at least reintroduce these past legacy games to a new audience, to people who may not have the opportunity to play it, because it might not be out on modern or current platforms.

In terms of past Capcom-developed Marvel titles, this has been something that myself and the team have been wanting to re-release for years and years now. It was just a matter of timing and making sure that everyone was on board. We’ve actually been in talks with Marvel for years now to see whether we can make this happen.”

The Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics will be out for PC and consoles in 2024.
