Longlegs Director Returns With The Monkey, A Stephen King Adaptation Next Year
NEON has unveiled the first trailer for The Monkey, a supernatural horror film based on the short story by Stephen King.
The film, directed by Longlegs director Osgood Perkins, stars Theo James (“The White Lotus”) as twin brothers Hal and Bill. The cast also includes Tatiana Maslany (“She-Hulk”), Elijah Wood (“The Lord of The Rings”), Laura Mennell (“Batwoman”), Christian Convery (“Sweet Tooth), Sarah Levy (“Schitt’s Creek”), Rohan Campbell (“The Hardy Boys”), Colin O’Brien (“Dear Edward”) and Corin Clark (“Upload”).
The synopsis reads:
“When twin brothers Bill and Hal find their father’s old monkey toy in the attic, a series of gruesome deaths start. The siblings decide to throw the toy away and move on with their lives, growing apart over the years,”

Longlegs was movie distributor Neon’s biggest opening ever, and the highest-grossing opening for an independent horror film of the last decade, making US$108.8 million worldwide. All of that is even more impressive considering that the movie’s budget was under US$10 million. Longlegs stars Nicolas Cage alongside Maika Monroe, with Monroe playing an FBI agent and Cage playing a serial killer.
Longlegs was shown in Malaysian cinemas in July 2024. In the meantime, check out our glowing review of the movie here to find out why it’s this generation’s Silence Of The Lambs.
The Monkey will premiere in US cinemas on 21 February 2025. There is no official release date in Malaysia as of yet.
