Overwatch Classic Rewinds To 6v6 Glory

It’s like stepping back into 2016! For a limited time, Blizzard’s reviving the original Overwatch experience in Overwatch 2 with a special mode, “Overwatch: Classic.” Available from 12 November to 2 December, the mode brings back the beloved 6v6 format, letting fans relive the game’s origins and capture some old-school excitement.

When Overwatch debuted in 2016, it helped redefine the competitive shooter genre, and its 6v6 format became iconic. After Overwatch was replaced by Overwatch 2 in 2022, team sizes shrunk to 5v5, and loot boxes were swapped for a battle pass. However, the new Classic mode aims to give fans a taste of the original, with configurations reflecting the game’s early versions, including faster Ultimate charge times and the ability to stack heroes in the same team—though this freedom may be adjusted in future events.

In this nostalgic mode, players can enjoy balance settings similar to those of Overwatch 1.0, alongside the classic four modes: Assault, Escort, Control, and Hybrid, on 12 maps, just like the launch version. Although the original game’s UI, competitive ranks, and loot boxes won’t return, the core essence is there, and Blizzard has preserved Overwatch 2’s map roster to ensure smooth integration.

Blizzard has hinted that Overwatch: Classic could return in future events, depending on community feedback, and they’ll be closely watching player reactions to shape upcoming 6v6 features. For now, it’s all about reliving the “golden days” of Overwatch—so grab your friends and dive back in while it lasts!
