Hideki Kamiya Shuts Down Fan’s Bayonetta-In-Tekken Dream

Some dreams are meant to stay just that—dreams. A Bayonetta fan recently found that out the hard way after asking Hideki Kamiya to work his magic and slip the sultry Umbra Witch into Tekken 8.

Since launching in 2024, Tekken 8 has thrilled fighting game fans worldwide, already welcoming Final Fantasy XVI’s Clive Rosfield as a guest character. With Anna Williams joining the fray, speculation is rife over who’s next. One particular fan had their heart set on Bayonetta and, rather boldly, took their request straight to the source—Kamiya himself.

Hideki Kamiya vs. Wishful Thinking

On 25 February 2025, a Bayonetta enthusiast tweeted at Kamiya, the character’s co-creator, pleading with him to pull some industry strings and get her into Tekken 8.

Kamiya, known for his no-nonsense (bordering on scorched-earth) approach to social media, responded in classic fashion. When the fan suggested Bayonetta should join the roster, Kamiya simply replied, “Do you know my profile? Can you read the text?”

Translation? “Not my problem.”

For those unfamiliar, this is standard Kamiya behaviour. The man doesn’t suffer fools lightly. He once placed a “curse” on leakers of the Nintendo Switch 2, wishing that they forever step on something unpleasant when they get home. If you come to his mentions unprepared, you’d best be ready for a verbal smackdown.

Wrong Guy, Right Idea?

To be fair, the fan wasn’t entirely off base. Kamiya has strong ties with fighting game royalty like Tekken’s Katsuhiro Harada and Super Smash Bros. mastermind Masahiro Sakurai (who did, in fact, get Bayonetta into Smash). But there’s just one glaring issue—Kamiya left PlatinumGames and has no involvement with Bayonetta anymore. He’s now focused on his new studio, Clovers, and an upcoming Okami sequel.

So while fans can keep dreaming of a Bayonetta cameo in Tekken, Kamiya clearly wants no part in making it happen. But hey, if Harada’s listening… never say never.
