Legendary Actor Gene Hackman, Who Played Live-Action Lex Luthor, Has Died

It’s a sad day for movie fans and comic book aficionados: the first-ever live-action Lex Luthor has died.

Actor Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa, along with their dog, were found dead in their home in New Mexico, according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office. He was 95.

As of now, officers “do not believe that foul play was a factor” in their deaths.

Hackman had a helluva movie career, playing violent men but also comedy foil in many films. He’s known for starring in Bonnie and Clyde, The French Connection, and Mississipi Burning.

Though in comic book films, he’s known for portraying one of the earlier live-action versions of Lex Luthor, the main antagonist of Superman in the Richard Donner films.

We’ll miss you, Gene Hackman. Thank you for the acting memories!
