Space Ghost Voice Actor Dies At 67, Was The Sole Reason Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim Block Became Popular

Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim brand has always been the mainstay for mature cartoons for an older audience, but did you know back in 2000 onward, it started getting traction when it launched due to one major long-running animated show?

That show was Space Ghost Coast To Coast and it shaped everybody’s taste and style of humour for years to come. It was surreal and filled with non-sequitors, and was a cult favourite thanks to Space Ghost’s voice actor George Lowe. Which brings us to the sad news: George Lowe has passed on at the age of 67.

Just learned from one of his friends that George Lowe, voice of the titular character from Space Ghost: Coast to Coast, has died.R.I.P., George

The actor left a huge impact on the animation world, influencing other future shows on the network like Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law and Aqua Teen Hunger Force, the latter starting off as a Space Ghost episode concept before becoming its own thing. Apart from being the iconic voice of Space Ghost, Lowe also did voice work for Robot Chicken, Sealab 2021, and many more.

Here are some parting words from Lowe’s friend and radio host Marvelous Marvin:

“I’m beyond devastated. My Zobanian brother and best friend for over 40 years, George Lowe, has passed away after a long illness. A part of me had also died. He was a supremely talented Artist and Voice actor. A true warm-hearted Genius. Funniest man on Earth too. I’ve stolen jokes from him for decades. He stole some of mine. He was also the voice of Space Ghost and so much more. Pweeloto.”

Rest in peace, George Lowe, and thank you for your Coast To Coast moments!
