SingTel & Razer To Host Giant New SEA Esports Tournament With US$300k Prize Pool

Major Singapore telecommunications company SingTel and peripheral company Razer -that sometimes dub itself a Singaporean company when needed- are joining forces with a bunch of others to host a new Southeast Asian Esports tournament. It’s called the PvP Esports Championship and it will be featuring the following games:

  • Dota 2

  • Arena of Valor

  • Hearthstone

The tournament will be held at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre from 5 to 7 October, with a prize pool of US$300,000. Razer will be supplying the hardware for the tournament as well as S$100,000 worth of prizes separate from the pool. Other partners in this bold new venture include MET, Blizzard, Garena, Secret Lab, Aftershock, and the Singapore Tourism Board. I should also mention that Blizzard will be sponsoring the prize pool for the Hearthstone event, adding more money to the already-lucrative US$300k+.

About The Selection Of Games…

I guess many of you are wondering about a few things? Where’s Mobile Legends, arguably the biggest mobile MOBA in Southeast Asia? Where is Overwatch? Where is game X and Y that has huge competitive value? The answer is simple: this is the first-ever tournament they’re doing and SingTel believes that the three games are a “good start”.

The tournament series is not a one-off affair, meaning that the game roster may change with the next tournament and the one after that. SingTel claims that this will be the first “multi-regional” and “multi-partner” esports event set in Singapore and they plan to fill up the location with a 1,000+ people per day tuning in physically.

We might disagree with that statement since Southeast Asia Major did it first with the “multi-regional” and “multi-partner” angle from all across the world – I know this because I was there. But still, it’s been aeons since Singapore had anything this multi-layered for esports that’s being backed up by folks like Razer, Garena, and Blizzard. Guess Razer’s for something other than upmarking their gaming peripherals after all.
