Xbox Controller Might Get PS5 DualSense Features, Says Phil Spencer

Xbox head Phil Spencer likes the PS5 DualSense controller. In fact, he likes it so much that he not only praises it, he also said that Xbox will likely incorporate some of the features of the DualSense controller into the Xbox controller sometime in the future.

The PS5 DualSense controller is currently one of the few controllers with unique Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers, allowing for a more immersive gaming experience. The Xbox Series X/S controller is a great controller as well, improving on the already excellent Xbox 360 and Xbox One gamepads, but it doesn’t actually feature much of anything new.

In an interview with Kinda Funny Gamescast, Xbox head Phil Spencer said:

“We’re definitely thinking about different kinds of devices that can bring more games to more places.

There’s probably some work that we’ll do on the controller.

I think Sony’s done a nice job with their controller and we kind of look at some of that and there are things that we should go do.

But [we’re] probably not in the more bespoke accessories place right now.

We just look at what happens on Windows and other places and see if there’s a unique opportunity for us.

Right now I don’t think there’s anything that’s obvious to me.”

If the Xbox controller does eventually support Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers, more PC game developers will probably add native and official support for these features. As for VR/AR integration, Spencer confirmed in the same interview that we probably shouldn’t expect much in that regard. He said:

“We’re watching what happens on PC.

As it relates to VR specifically, the best experience that I’ve seen is Quest 2 and I just think its untethered [nature] and ease of use in its capability just doesn’t to me require it being connected to an Xbox in any way.”
