Overwatch 2 Reaches 25 Million Players, Surpassing Overwatch 1
Making a game free-to-play goes a long way, and Activision Blizzard seems to enjoy the windfall in terms of audiences for the Overwatch sequel.
Despite server trouble and bloated player queues, Overwatch 2 has over 25 million players logged into the game in the first 10 days.
“Since launch, the game has been reaching nearly 3x the amount of players per day as the previous daily peak for the original Overwatch.”
Sure, that seems like big numbers, but will it maintain this momentum given the game’s server issues, its expensive items on the cash shop, and the fact that you need to play 100 matches to unlock old heroes if you’re new? Though to be fair, the 5v5 multiplayer scaleback and new maps are some of the good things offered in this “sequel”.
