Rurouni Kenshin Anime Reboot Screenings Are Coming To Malaysia

The latest trailer for the Rurouni Kenshin anime reboot features the “Kissaki” (Sword Tip) ending theme song that singer-songwriter Reol created for the anime, and it also confirms that it will premiere on 6 July 2023.

It has also been revealed (via the official website and Anime News Network) that screening events will be held in the United States, France, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and South Korea, starting with Japan.

In Japan, it will be held twice at United Cinemas Aqua City Odaiba in Tokyo on 18 June 2023. Soma Saito (playing Kenshin Himura), Rie Takahashi (playing Kaoru Kamiya), Makoto Koichi (playing Yahiko Myojin), and Taku Yashiro (playing Sanosuke Sagara) took the stage.

However, at the time of writing, there are no details or information yet from cinema chains like GSC Cinemas or TGV Cinemas. We’ll update this article when there is new information.

Since the first screening will be in Japan on 18 June 2023, the Malaysian screenings will probably be between 18 June 2023 and 6 July 2023.

Rurouni Kenshin creator Nobuhiro Watsuki originally launched his Rurouni Kenshin manga in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1994. The manga has more than 72 million copies in circulation worldwide. The manga follows Kenshin Himura, who was once a deadly assassin during the Meiji Restoration and is trying to find a new life beyond violence. Back in November 2017, police discovered DVDs with footage of naked girls in their early teens in Watsuki’s Tokyo office. He was later charged with child pornography and fined ¥200,000.

The manga was previously adapted into a 95-episode TV anime series, an anime film, three original video anime projects, five live-action films, and a stage musical by the all-female musical theatre troupe Takarazuka Revue.
