[Updated] Street Fighter 6 Hits 1 Million Players In Just 3 Days & The Franchise Hits 50 Million Sales

Street Fighter 6, the latest instalment in the legendary fighting game franchise, has already pulled in a whopping one million players within just three days of its release. Capcom, the company behind the game, proudly announced this milestone on the official Japanese Street Fighter Twitter account. They tweeted, and I quote, “Street Fighter 6 has surpassed 1 million players.”

To show their gratitude to the fans, Capcom has thrown in a little something extra. They’ve added a free in-game gift to celebrate the achievement, and players are buzzing about it. It seems to be a profile title, according to reports.

The tweet also claims that the entire Street Fighter series, as a whole, has now sold over 50 million copies. Whoa, that’s a whole lot of fighters duking it out on screens worldwide!

How does it compare to its predecessors?

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Does this mean Street Fighter 6 is going to be a massive hit in terms of sales?” Well, player count and game sales aren’t exactly the same thing. Nevertheless, hitting the one-million mark in just three days is definitely a positive sign for the future success of the game. Let me put this into perspective for you: its predecessor, Street Fighter V, took a whole three months to sell 1.4 million copies. Talk about a speed boost!

Street Fighter IV, the beloved Street Fighter entry that came before V, had an even more explosive start. It sold over three million copies in just six weeks! Can you believe it?

And here’s a juicy tidbit: Last month, Capcom’s president spilt the beans on their ambitions for Street Fighter 6. In an interview with Famitsu, Haruhiro Tsujimoto revealed that the company has set a target of selling a mind-blowing 10 million copies of the game throughout its lifetime. That’s right, they’re aiming for the stars!

Tsujimoto explained their grand plan by highlighting the success of other Capcom franchises like Resident Evil and Monster Hunter. He pointed out that several titles in the Resident Evil series have reached the impressive milestone of selling 10 million copies, and the Monster Hunter series is even gunning for 20 million copies! With Street Fighter V already racking up over 7 million copies sold, Tsujimoto believes that by expanding the game’s appeal to a wider audience, including those who aren’t hardcore fighting game fans, they can turn Street Fighter 6 into the best-selling game in the entire series.

And guess what? The initial reviews of Street Fighter 6 have been super positive. Critics are loving it, giving it a solid score on Metacritic ranging from 89 to 92, depending on the gaming platform. Looks like Capcom is off to a great start with this one!

So, fighting game enthusiasts and Street Fighter fans alike, buckle up because it seems like Street Fighter 6 is shaping up to be an electrifying addition to the franchise. With one million players already stepping into the virtual arena, it’s clear that this game has struck a chord with gamers worldwide. Let the battles commence!

Update (6 June)

Not too long after this article went up, the official English Twitter for Street Fighter announced that the franchise as a whole has now sold over 50 million copies. The account went on to express gratitude for all the people who have supported the franchise over the years.
