[Report] Final Fantasy 9 Remake Will Be Similar To Crisis Core In Scale

The Final Fantasy 9 remake has been this year’s worst-kept secret from Square Enix, with rumours swirling about since the GeForce Now gaming database leak a while back. And now we have some more tidbits about how the game will be like scope-wise.

According to gaming insider Jeff Grubb, there are now claims that Final Fantasy 9 Remake is in active development and will be on the scale of Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core, not so much Final Fantasy 7 Remake. The game will use the ATB turn-based system like in the original, with the classic gameplay still being more or less the same. The game won’t be a simple HD remaster, however.

Personally? We definitely want to ditch random battles and want to see enemies approachable or on-screen on the world map/dungeons. Other than that, FF9 is an immaculate RPG that pays massive tribute to the past classic Hironobu Sakaguchi-developed FF titles. For more FF9 goodness, do check out the Memoria Project below. It’s a fan project that envisions what a remake of the classic RPG would look like.
