James Cameron Confirms Alita Battle Angel Films Are In The Works

Legendary movie director and producer James Cameron has confirmed that there are several new Alita Battle Angel films in development. The first movie premiered in 2019 by director Robert Rodriguez and it was an adaptation of the Japanese manga Gunnm (Battle Angel Alita in English) by Yukito Kishiro.

In a new interview with Forbes about his houses and properties, Cameron (perhaps accidentally) confirms that he will be working on the new Alita Battle Angel films. However, it’s likely that he will stay as a producer and not a director, seeing that he’ll be busy with Avatar sequels for the next decade or so.

In the interview, he said:

“And on Avatar, I’m working in Wellington and Los Angeles. And on the new Alita: Battle Angel films, I’ll be working in Austin, so it just didn’t make sense for us anymore.”

At the time of writing, Disney (who owns 20th Century Fox, which distributed the first Alita Battle Angel movie) has yet to officially announce a new Alita Battle Angel movie, so it’s likely that the movie might be several years away at this point in time.

In the meantime, check out our review of 2019’s Alita Battle Angel by heading over here. Back in 2019, the movie managed to gross a whopping US$2.9 million in Malaysia alone, which made it 20th Century Fox’s second-biggest opening weekend ever in the country at that time.
