BioWare Announces Layoffs For At Least 50 Employees
BioWare has announced that they are laying off “approximately” 50 people.
In a new blog post, the studio’s general manager, Gary McKay, said:
“In order to meet the needs of our upcoming projects, continue to hold ourselves to the highest standard of quality, and ensure BioWare can continue to thrive in an industry that’s rapidly evolving, we must shift towards a more agile and more focused studio,” McKay wrote. “As part of this transition, we are eliminating approximately 50 roles at BioWare.”
News of the layoffs comes as BioWare is still developing the next Mass Effect game and Dragon Age Dreadwolf, both of which have not received updates in a while. No gameplay footage or significant trailers for both games have been released in 2023.
With this turn of events and the lack of updates on their games, it’s hard to see how BioWare will be able to bounce back from their years-long slouch, which began with 2017’s Mass Effect Andromeda and only exacerbated with 2019’s Anthem.
