T1 Secure Grand Finals Spot At LoL Worlds 2023 In Front Of A 4.3 Million Worldwide Viewership
By Lewis "lickety" Larcombe|November 13, 2023|0 Comment
Chinese team JD Gaming, considered favourites for the League of Legends Worlds 2023, faced a surprising defeat by Faker‘s T1 in an intense 3-1 semifinal showdown, ending their aspirations for “The Golden Road.”
(NOTE: The Golden Road refers to a team that has won their region’s Spring and Summer Splits, the Mid-Season Invitational, and Worlds all in the same year)
T1’s victory ensures local fans have a home team to cheer for in the upcoming grand show, as the LCK second-seed gets ready for the Summoner’s Cup on Sunday morning. This marks T1’s sixth appearance in the Worlds final, with the Korean organisation striving for its fourth major trophy since its establishment over a decade ago as SK Telecom T1. Faker, instrumental in today’s series win over JD Gaming (JDG), is also pursuing his fourth Summoner’s Cup.
Expressing his determination, T1 top laner Zeus mentioned, “Last year I experienced a heartbreaking loss, but this time I can make up for it.” Referring to their performance in the previous year’s Worlds final against DRX, where T1 took the series to five games but couldn’t secure the win.

Facing Weibo Gaming in the final, who defeated compatriots Bilibili Gaming, T1 has had an exceptional run in their home Worlds, defeating every LPL seed. The series against JDG, the top seed from LPL, proved challenging, but T1 dominated the opener with Zeus’ Aatrox and Oner’s rotations. Despite JDG’s comeback in the second game, T1 regained the initiative in game three, with Keria’s Renata Glasc playing a crucial role.
The series peaked at 4,308,901 viewers, marking the second-highest viewership for a League of Legends professional series in esports history, according to Esports Charts. T1 will face Weibo Gaming in the Worlds 2023 grand final on 19 Nov at 4:00 PM MYT, seeking redemption and leaving no regrets behind, as emphasized by Zeus.
