Team SMG and Team Lilgun have secured spots in the M5 World Championship. The M5 Wild Card, held in Kuala Lumpur for the first time, featured eight international teams competing for the last two slots in the M5 World Championship. This new format provided emerging regions with an opportunity to advance to the Group Stage in the Philippines.
In the final day of the M5 Wild Card at JioSpace, Kuala Lumpur, Team SMG from the host nation defeated Imperio E-sport 3-1, earning their ticket to the M5 Group Stage. This achievement is a significant part of Team SMG’s redemption journey, positioning them to be #BetterThanGreat against strong opponents and old rivals. In the upcoming M5 World Championship, Team SMG will face Blacklist International, Fire Flux Esports, and RRQ Akira in Group B.
Team Lilgun, the Mongolian titans and M Challenge Cup Mekong Season 2 champions secured the last M5 World Championship slot by defeating Niightmare Esports. This victory follows their impressive performance at the IESF World Esports Championship 2023, where they finished 5th-6th after being considered dark horses in the tournament.
The M5 World Championship, scheduled from 2 to 17 December in the Philippines, will feature the top 16 teams competing for a share of the US$900,000 prize pool. The international tournament is supported by Global Presenting Partner Qiddiya, Official Gaming Phone Sponsor ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG), and Official SuperApp Partner Grab.
