Azure Ray’s Epic Comeback Shocks Dota’s Finest In ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023

Destiny played its part as Azure Ray emerged victorious at ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023, sponsored by Intel®. Their thrilling 3:2 reverse sweep win concluded an action-packed weekend of high-stakes Dota 2, captivating the lively crowd at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC). More than 18,000 fans attended the three-day playoffs, immersing themselves in the atmosphere of the first arena-scale Dota 2 LAN tournament since The International 2023 and the second event in the ESL Pro Tour (EPT) Season 2.

Azure Ray showcased their prowess by outplaying 11 of the world’s top teams, including the formidable Gaimin Gladiators in a fiercely contested grand final. The intense match saw Azure Ray overcoming a 0-2 scoreline to secure a 3:2 victory and claim the championship. Their exceptional team chemistry, teamwork, and experience earned them the grand prize of US$300,000 (RM1,410,000) from the total prize pool of US$1,000,000 (RM4,700,000).

This triumph also earned Azure Ray 4,800 EPT points out of the available 19,980, crucial for determining leaderboard standings and direct invites to the DreamLeague Season 22 showdown. Gaimin Gladiators, for their commendable effort, took home US$175,000 (RM822,500) and 3,600 EPT points, securing second place. Team Liquid claimed the third spot, receiving US$120,000 (RM564,000) and 3,000 EPT points.

Shane Clarke, Director of Game Ecosystems for Dota 2 at ESL FACEIT Group, expressed, “Bringing ESL One powered by Intel® back to Malaysia, and for the first time, Kuala Lumpur, has been an exhilarating journey. MITEC was truly buzzing, with the arena alive as thousands of passionate fans enjoyed a sensational weekend of Dota 2 action, culminating in a Grand Final showdown for the ages.”

Caitlin Kang, Senior Director Business Operations APJ, Managing Director of ESL Malaysia at ESL FACEIT Group, extended congratulations to Azure Ray for their well-deserved victory and thanked fans, partners, and staff for contributing to the success of ESL One Kuala Lumpur.
