Islands Of Insight Beginner’s Guide: Tips To Get Started

Islands of Insight is a mesmerizing open-world multiplayer puzzle game developed by Lunarch Studios, a Canadian-based company. Players play the role of a Seeker, embarking on a peaceful journey of unlocking the mysteries of the fantasy world one puzzle at a time. With over 10,000 puzzles crafted by “some of the best minds in puzzle design”, Islands of Insight is a captivating game but can be overwhelming at first.

Having successfully traversed through two of the game’s biomes, we have gained valuable insights into how to navigate this surreal adventure. Here are some valuable tips to help you get started on your own journey:

There is no fall damage but…

In most open-world games, fall damage happens when the character steps out of the intended area, mostly above land, which will decrease the character’s overall HP and even some affected character stats. However, in Islands of Insight, fall damage is avoided altogether, and players will respawn at the last area they visited. However, under certain circumstances, such as falling from high altitudes, your character may respawn in a different area. While falling is generally safe in this game, players should still be cautious while navigating the game world, especially while gliding through the air.

Follow the first two Main Quest

Having first entered Islands of Insight, you can’t help to explore its vibrant landscapes and mesmerizing architecture. But before you get to the best part, it’s highly recommended that you complete the first two main quests as this will help you speed up your skill upgrades and unlock new abilities that will make your exploration much easier.

To keep track of your path, just follow the gold mark on the Map and complete all the required tasks to move forward in the game. The puzzles are pretty much easy for both quests, so get ready to get your wings for gliding and double jump to reach high altitudes in seconds.

It’s okay to leave unsolved puzzles

Most puzzle games will not let you progress if you don’t solve the puzzle that appears in front of your screen. This gets even worse if it takes you days to solve that stage in order to move forward. Well, you don’t have to worry about that in Islands of Insight. In this game, players have the option to exit any puzzle whenever they desire. This flexibility applies to all types of puzzles, regardless of their difficulty levels.

Although entering Enclave will present players with a list of goals to accomplish, they have the freedom to choose which puzzles to tackle first. Moreover, if a particular puzzle becomes too challenging, players have the option to abandon it and move on to something else. Roam around the Enclave because there will be tons of puzzle activities for you to complete and get on with the next quest.

Focus on the coloured areas on the map

Lunarch Studios provides no restrictions for players to traverse all the islands without having to unlock the lands (shown as the foggy areas).

Players can glide their way into a new island and experience the captivating beauty that unfolds before their eyes. However, it is important to note that while players can navigate through these areas, they encounter limitations when it comes to engaging with the majority of the puzzles present on the land.

On the other hand, while players are given the freedom to roam and explore in the game, this freedom is not extended to Enclave. Entry into most Enclave areas is restricted, and players must meet specific requirements to gain access.

Upgrade your skills first with Spark Points

Spark Points are earned by completing puzzles and achieving set goals upon entering an Enclave. These points are then accumulated and can be used to purchase cosmetic items for your avatar or invest in upgrades. We decided to prioritize the latter option, as it offers additional movements and unlocks tools for advanced puzzle types.

While it may be tempting to deck out your avatar with god-like accessories, investing in upgrades can provide significant advantages. For instance, certain upgrades may grant you additional movements, allowing you to solve puzzles more efficiently. Others may unlock valuable tools for advanced puzzle-solving techniques. As you progress in the game, there may be opportunities to earn bonus points by completing specific challenges, such as solving Armillary Rings. Additionally, extra hints may be unlocked for Logic Grid puzzles, making it easier for you to solve these complex brain teasers.

In the long run, you still can get accessories by levelling up your character and most of all, it’s free this way than having to purchase one which is very expensive.

Switch between first and third-person view

In this open-world puzzle game, there are instances where switching to a specific viewpoint can make certain puzzles more approachable. For instance, the Armillary Rings puzzle can be solved more seamlessly by using the first-person perspective. On the other hand, there are puzzles such as the Sentinel Stones that exclusively require this viewpoint. Therefore, it is recommended to adapt your approach based on the specific puzzle you are trying to solve. Feel free to experiment with different perspectives to find the optimal solution.

Islands of Insight is an enchanting open-world multiplayer puzzle game that captivates players with its stunning visuals, intricate puzzles, and immersive gameplay. If you’re still unsure if you should play it, check out our Islands of Insight review.

By following these tips, players can navigate the fantasy world with ease, uncover its secrets, and embark on a journey of self-discovery and puzzle-solving. So, grab your Seeker and embark on this exciting adventure today!
