Invincible Season 2 Finale Episode 8 Breakdown & Easter Eggs

The eighth and final episode of Invincible Season 2 is now streaming on Prime Video Malaysia. Check out my spoiler-free review of Invincible Season 2 by heading over here.

Check out my breakdown of Invincible Season 2 Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3, Episode 4, Episode 5, Episode 6 and Episode 7 here.

The synopsis reads:

Still reeling from Nolan’s betrayal in Season 1, Mark struggles to rebuild his life as he faces a host of new threats, all while battling his greatest fear – that he might become his father without even knowing it.

Starring Steven Yeun, with Sandra Oh, Zazie Beetz, Grey DeLisle, Chris Diamantopoulos, Walton Goggins, Gillian Jacobs, Jason Mantzoukas, Ross Marquand, Khary Payton, Zachary Quinto, Andrew Rannells, Kevin Michael Richardson, Seth Rogen, and J.K. Simmons. Joining the Season 2 cast are Sterling K. Brown, Peter Cullen, Rob Delaney, Calista Flockhart, Phil LaMarr, Luke MacFarlane, Tatiana Maslany, Scott McNairy, Jay Pharoah, Ella Purnell, Tim Robinson, Ben Schwartz, Rhea Seehorn, Lea Thompson, Paul F. Tompkins, Shantel VanSanten, and more.

Created by Robert Kirkman (and artists Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley), Invincible revolves around 17-year-old Mark Grayson who learns that he has inherited incredible powers from his superhero alien father, Omni-Man. The comic series ran for 144 issues from 2003 to 2018, with many spinoffs and its own cohesive shared universe.

I’ll be discussing heavy spoilers so if you haven’t seen it or want to avoid spoilers, now’s your chance to stop reading.

Invincible Spider-Man Cameo, Sort Of

Since Amazon Prime Video and Robert Kirkman can’t get the rights to Spider-Man, they referenced the iconic Invincible Spider-Man team-up from the comics with this. In the comics, one of Angstrom Levy’s portals leads Invincible to enter the Marvel Universe.

It’s nice that the Prime Video animated series can still do that reference without the rights, albeit indirectly.

Firstly, this Agent Spider is clearly meant to reference Spider-Man, and the villain he’s fighting is clearly meant to reference Doctor Octopus AKA Doc Ock AKA Dr. Otto Octavius.

But there’s also the fact that Josh Keaton voices this Agent Spider, and Josh Keaton is best known for voicing Spider-Man in The Spectacular Spider-Man animated series.

The Invincible Spider-Man team-up originally happened in Marvel Team-Up Vol. 3 Issue #14 published in 2005.

Invincible Meets Batman

This also happened in the comics (Invincible Issue #33).

If you’re wondering about how he had the same conversation today, it’s with the Avengers in the Spider-Man team-up comic. He was referring to this:

The Name Of The Episode Comes Verbatim From A Line In The Comics After Mark Kills Angstrom Levy

More trauma for Mark.

Dupli-Kate Is Still Alive

One copy of her still lives.

They Adapted This Iconic Moment Too

Yep, Nolan’s road to redemption begins now.

There you have it, folks.

That’s the end of Invincible Season 2.

Invincible is already renewed for Season 3, but we still don’t have a release date at the time of writing.

For anything new, stay tuned on Kakuchopurei.

Until the, excelsior!
