Disney Games Strengthens Leadership Team With Top Talent From Blizzard & Ubisoft
By Lewis "lickety" Larcombe|April 9, 2024|0 Comment
Disney Games has expanded its leadership team by bringing on board experienced professionals from renowned gaming companies such as Blizzard and Ubisoft. In addition to this, several longstanding executives within the company, including Sean Shoptaw, have been promoted.
This move to bolster the team comes after Disney’s announcement in February of a partnership with Epic to create a new gaming and entertainment universe linked to Fortnite.
Ray Gresko, formerly of Blizzard, has taken on the role of senior vice president of product and development at Disney Games. He will collaborate closely with the Epic team in shaping the new universe, which will offer users a platform to engage with content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and Avatar in various ways.
Gresko’s experience includes co-leading the development of popular games like Overwatch and Diablo 3 during his tenure at Blizzard. He also played a key role in creating Hearthstone’s initial playable prototype during his time at LucasArts.
Bjorn Tornqvist, who spent nearly two decades in technical leadership positions at Ubisoft, has joined Disney Games as vice president of technology. He spearheaded global teams in developing innovative technologies such as Ubisoft’s Scalar technology and the multiplayer features in The Division. Tornqvist also led advancements in streaming and multiplayer technologies with titles like Just Dance Now.
Jay Ong, who previously led Marvel Games for nearly ten years, will now oversee Disney’s global games licensing business across all franchises. Haluk Mentes will take on Ong’s former role as the head of Marvel Games.
Gresko, Tornqvist, and Ong will report directly to Sean Shoptaw, who has been promoted to executive vice president of Disney’s gaming division.
Tasia Filippatos, president of Disney consumer products, expressed confidence in the leadership team’s ability to deliver top-notch storytelling through gaming. She thanked the entire Disney Games team for their contributions and emphasized their role in shaping the future of the industry.
