Steam Has Been Banned In Vietnam
Gamers in Vietnam can no longer access the Steam platform.
According to a report by GamesIndustry.biz and Vietnam.net, the reason why Steam has been banned in Vietnam is likely because local game developers in the Southeast Asian country have been complaining that they cannot compete with Steam’s vast library of content. They also say that it’s not fair because they are restricted by having to apply for government approval before launching a game, while international games on Steam are free from this restriction.
At the time of writing, the Vietnamese government or Valve (the owner and creator of the Steam platform) have yet to offer any official statements.
All gamers and Steam users in Vietnam can do for now is to complain on online forums such as Reddit until the issue is (hopefully) eventually resolved.
