Virgin Punk Brings Grit, Drama, & A Sus Name To Screens Next Summer

Aniplex recently revealed a brand-new anime series by renowned director Yasuomi Umetsu and the acclaimed animation studio SHAFT, titled Virgin Punk, during the Aniplex Online Fest. The announcement showcased a teaser visual and a promotional video for the first part of the series, Clockwork Girl, which is set to premiere in early summer next year across two cinemas in Tokyo and Osaka.

The questionably named series is an anime original and focuses on the struggles of Ubu, the female protagonist, and the chaotic desires of the powerful characters surrounding her. The teaser visual poignantly states:

“Beaten down by repeated misfortunes, she became a mere shadow of herself.”

Umetsu, known for works like Kite and Mezzo, is both directing and designing the characters for the series. Yuya Takahashi (Lupin III: Part IV) will handle the script, while a talented team of animators, including Genichirou Abe (Kizumonogatari), Shinya Takahashi (Battle Angel), and Maho Kando (Josee, the Tiger and the Fish), brings the project to life.

The series also boasts a skilled creative team, with Keita Matsumoto on sub-character design, Ni? overseeing mechanical design, and Yasuko Watanabe in charge of colour design, among others. Music for the series will be composed by Yoshiaki Dewa, while Aniplex will manage distribution.

So as we wait for Summer 2025 to come, check out the trailer and maybe add this one to your “Plan to Watch” on your Anime tracker.
