Long-Running Malaysian Animated Series Upin & Ipin Gets New Open World Game

Malaysia’s long-running all-ages animated series featuring kids Upin & Ipin are getting their spotlight in video games this year.

Animation studio Les Copaque Production and Streamline Studios are teaming up to develop and publish Upin & Ipin Universe, an open-world game for PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. The game is built using Unreal Engine 5 and features the charming animation and look from the animated series as well as fun all-ages open-world gameplay.

Knowing the genre and target audience, you can expect third-person action and platforming, and a bunch of kampung-flavoured minigames ranging from cooking to even fetch quests for Upin & Ipin’s elderly relatives. The playground is going to be Kampung Durian Runtuh, so you’ll be exploring the forests and kampung side of Malaysia in 3D glory. According to the press release for the game, players can explore a vibrant environment filled with cultural elements & engaging sidequests, as well as an original storyline just for the game that stays true to the show’s core values of family, friendship, and adventure.

Check out the official website for more info on the new Universe. The game is slated for a 2025 release.

Upin & Ipin is a Malaysian kid’s animated TV show that has been around since 2007. The show has spanned 18 seasons and is still going strong today as the longest-running animated TV show in Malaysia.
