Bloodbreaker: Labyrinth of the Witch Sure Is A New Roguelite Metroidvania…
Filipino developer Phoenix Up! Media is teaming up with publisher Soft Source to release its new 2D roguelite Metroidvania title Bloodbreaker: Labyrinth of the Witch.
The upcoming 2D game which features pre-rendered graphics from the 2000s and a pretty dark aesthetic (not grim, just hard to see) lets you play as a day-walking top-heavy vampire named Ayana Crimson. She has to go rescue her brother and uncover the truth about her family in the depths of the titular Labyrinth of the Witch.
Step into the dark and perilous world of Bloodbreaker: Labyrinth of the Witch, a challenging roguevania. You play as Ayana Crimson – the ‘Bloodbreaker’ -a day-walking vampire with a taste for demon blood. When her brother is captured by the enigmatic white witch Brendowyn Sangrianon, Ayana must descend into the depths of the ever-changing Labyrinth, a place steeped in corruption and decay, to save her brother and uncover the truth about her family.
The visual style of Bloodbreaker: Labyrinth of the Witch blends classic gothic aesthetics, eerie lighting, and a vibrant, saturated colour palette, to create an atmosphere of darkness and dread. Drawing inspiration from the iconic Castlevania series, Bloodbreaker adds a modern touch to appeal to contemporary audiences, with visually-striking, stylized character designs influenced by anime and manga art.
The game will be out in 2026 and is available to wishlist on Steam. Hopefully it gets all the time in the world to get polished because the new trailer below with the heavy gameplay editing and jumpcuts aren’t doing it any favours.
