The Next PlayStation India Hero Indie Title Is This Side-Scrolling Rhythm Platformer
The next candidate for PlayStation India’s Hero Project mixes music and platforming in one stylish package.
The upcoming title is called SURI: The Seventh Note and it’s made by Tathvamasi. The developer released the newest gameplay trailer which features seventh beat detection in your platforming, lovely indie graphics, and a lot of Indian and Hindi motif. Here’s a quote from game director Glen Martin:
“We grew up playing on PlayStation consoles and they have a special place in our hearts. We’re excited to bring our own game to consoles that were integral to our childhood.”
SURI: The Seventh Note will be out for PC and PlayStation 5; no release date has been announced yet. Key features & trailer below:
- A Rhythmic World – From the flickering of a flame to giant waterwheels, the world moves in unison, tethered to an enigmatic rhythm. Only few beings such as yourself are free from this curse. Explore the world by feeling the rhythm and navigating perilous traps.
- Bold Art – We want to give a new look to the Metroidvania genre by imagining a world that is distinctively Indian even in the smallest of details. The pen and ink art style brings out the bold, colorful, and dramatic vibe of India while we model our environment and architecture based on iconic locations from the country.
- Set in Mythical India – We are trying to bring up places, characters and stories from the rich tapestry of Indian mythology while being respectful of our religions.
- Varied Biomes – We are modelling each of our biomes from the wide and varied landscape of India. We are inspired by the Deserts and ancient Forts of Rajasthan, the Serene temples nestled in Himalayas, the Ancient civilizations deep within the Western Ghats, the Magnificent Ajantha Ellora Caves, and many more. We want to highlight the diversity of the Indian landscape and culture through our game.
- Music That Moves – We are taking inspiration from the folk music and its history from the lands and cultures that define the various biomes of the game. We want the game’s music to be a reflection of India’s musical landscape which is as rich and varied as the country itself.
- Inspirations – Our gameplay is inspired by legendary Metroidvanias such as Hollow Knight, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, the Bloodstained series, and many more. Our art is bold, colorful, and dramatic and we are inspired by the works of Killian Eng and Maxime Desmettre. We are also taking inspirations from games such as Hades and Banner saga.
