Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition Is The Honorable Encore We Deserve
At last count, we’ve clocked about 190 hours of play time on Total War: Shogun 2. And with SEGA’s latest announcement, we don’t think we’ll be adding more to that, because we’ll be totally engrossed and piling up the hours in Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition which is set to hit shelves next month instead.
To the uninitiated, Shogun 2 is part of the illustrious Total War turn-based real-time strategy family. It has its siblings, each with battlefields set in different eras of war such as The Crusades, Ancient Rome, on the back of the legendary War of the Three Kingdoms and even Warhammer 40k. But none came close to the beauty, complexity and legendary status of Shogun 2 which was originally released in 2011.
In SHOGUN 2, players will take control of a faction vying for the supremacy over Japan through a series of turns where they balance resource gathering, map exploration, alliance building and scheming interspersed with real-time battle strategy once it’s time to cross swords on the battlefield. It really is unlike any other game on its release and hardly replicated even today.

Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition will include three standalone campaigns spanning over 700 years of Japanese history, from the rise of the first Shogun to the fall of the last Samurai. From katanas to gatling guns. From the first ever discovery of The Black Ship to the fall of the Shogunate.
Surely you’d be wondering what’s new on the tin which adds to the countless mods and community support poured onto the game well past its heyday and SEGA have listed the following ‘enhancements’.
- Full Japanese and Chinese voice and text localisation
- Improved visuals, lighting and shadows
- 1440p and 4K UI scaling
- Modernised controls
- More than 50 newly playable factions
- Integrated Mod.io support
- 64-bit upgrade
- Ultrawide monitor support
- Colourblind accessibility options
And as show of good faith and not just a cash-grab exercise, SEGA confirmed that existing owners of Total War: SHOGUN 2 will receive all of the original DLC for free and are eligible for an exclusive, limited-time 75% loyalty discount on the Complete Edition. Additionally, players who purchase the Complete Edition on Steam will also receive the original Total War: SHOGUN 2 and all of its accompanying DLC.
This is indeed an HONOURABLE DISPLAY by SEGA and may this practice be more common amongst other publishers as well.
Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition releases on October 13, 2026, for PC on Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, and GOG.
